Accessibility: Using Alexa voice commands to control Layer3 TV

Verify that you have set up Alexa to work at home by following these steps:

Set Up Amazon Alexa to control Layer3 TV 

Activate Alexa

To talk to your Alexa device, you’ll need to first activate Alexa by saying your device’s wake up word (by default “Alexa”).

Ask Alexa to communicate with Layer3 TV

Start any command by saying,

  • Alexa, ask Layer3…
  • Alexa, tell Layer3…

Logging In/Off

To hear any content you select to play using any voice commands listed below, you will need to log in to your profile by saying,

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to log in <your profile name>

If you would like to log out of your profile, say,

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to log off <your profile name>

If you want to know what is playing on a specific channel, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 what’s on channel <number >

Alexa will tell you the program and associated information that is on that channel. If you would like to play a program Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Program Title>
  • Tune to <channel number>
  • Tune to <channel name>

Alexa will list five channels at a time with current program information. If you would like to play a program Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Program Title>
  • Tune to <channel number>
  • Tune to <channel name>
 On Demand

If you want to know what is available to watch On Demand, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 what’s available On Demand
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 what’s On Demand

Alexa will list categories to watch (Movies, Shows, etc.) and you can select by saying the name of the category. After you select a category, Alexa will then list collections available for you to watch (Most Popular, New Release, Award Nominees, etc.).

Once you select a collection, Alexa will list five programs and associated information at a time. To play any content that Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Program Title>

If you have an admin pin set up to purchase VOD, Alexa will prompt you to say your pin.

If you select a series, Alexa will list seasons and episodes available for you to watch. To play an episode Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Episode Title>
  • Play <Episode Number>

 DVR

If you want to know what programs have been recorded on your DVR, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV what’s on my DVR

Alexa will list five recordings and associated information at a time. To play any program that Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Program Title>

If you select a series, Alexa will list the recorded seasons and episodes available for you to watch from your DVR. To play an episode Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Episode Title>
  • Play <Episode Number>

Search

To ask Alexa to find a movie or series, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to search for < Movie Title>
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to search for < Series Title>

Alexa will ask if you would like to hear the search results.  If you say yes, Alexa will read off five search results at a time with a “Option <#>” associated with each result. To play any program that Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play Option <#>

If you select a series, Alexa will list seasons and episodes available for you to watch. To play an episode Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Episode Title>
  • Play <Episode Number>

Movie Info Page

If you want to learn more about a movie, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to tell me about < Movie Name>

Alexa will tell you the summary, genre, what it’s rated, the director/s, actors and/actresses, and other information associated with the movie. To play the movie, say…

  • Play <Movie Title>

Series Info Page

If you want to learn more about a series, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to tell me about <Series Name>

Alexa will tell you the summary, genre, what it’s rated, the director/s, actors and/actresses, and other information associated with the series. To play the series, say…

  • Play <Series Title>

Alexa will then list seasons available for you to watch. If you select a season, Alexa will list three episodes at a time along with the episode summary, rated, length, and other information. To play an episode Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Episode Title>
  • Play <Episode Number>

Playback

To fast forward through a program, you can say,

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to fast forward

To rewind through a program, you can say,

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to rewind

To pause a program, say,

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to pause

To resume a program, after pausing, fast forward or rewinding, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to play

Record

To record a show you are currently watching, you can say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to record this show
  • Alexa, ask Layer 3 TV to start recording

Closed Captioning On/Off

To turn closed captioning on, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to turn on closed captioning
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to turn off closed captioning

Secondary Audio Programming (On/Off)

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to turn on SAP
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to turn off SAP  

Descriptive Video Service (On/Off)

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to turn on DVS
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to turn off DVS

Home

You can hear what programs are recommended you watch (or on the home screen) by saying:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV what should I watch
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV what do you recommend I watch

Alexa will list five programs and associated information at a time. To play any content that Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Program Title>
  • Tune to <channel number>
  • Tune to <channel name>

My Library 

To hear what programs, you have saved My Library, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV what’s in My Library

Alexa will list categories to watch (Movies, Shows, Web Videos) and you can select by saying the name of the category. After you select a category, Alexa will list five programs and associated information at a time. To play any content that Alexa has listed, say…

  • Play <Program Title>

Apps

To learn about what applications you can launch

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 what apps are available?

Alexa will list all application available for you to launch on our set top box. To launch an application, say…

  • Launch <Application Name>

To launch an application directly, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to launch <Application Name>

To exit out of the application, press the ‘Home’ button on your remote

Settings

If you want to change your settings, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure my settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change my settings

If you want to change, Language settings directly, say:  

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure Language settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change Language settings

If you want to change, a SAP Language directly, say (this is a settings option under Language):

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure SAP Language
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change SAP Language

If you want to change, Accessibility settings directly, say: 

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure Accessibility settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer 3 to change Accessibility settings

If you want to change, Closed Captioning settings, say (this is a settings option under Accessibility):

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure Closed Captioning settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer 3 to change Closed Captioning settings

If you want to change, Device settings directly, say: 

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure Device settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change Device settings

If you want to change, Audio & Video directly, say (this is a settings option under Device):

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure Audio and Video settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change Audio and Video settings

If you want to change, LCD & LED settings directly, say (this is a settings option under Device): 

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure LCD and LED settings
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change LCD and LED settings

If you want to change Parental Controls directly, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to configure Parental Controls
  • Alexa, ask Layer3 to change Parental Controls

Alexa will guide you through changing and selecting different settings options under each category. 

Account

If you want to hear your account information, say:

  • Alexa, ask Layer3 TV to tell me about my account

Alexa will list primary account holder information (Account Holder, Account Email, Account Number, Username).
